As all of us grow into ourselves we discover things that have always been obvious to others. Sometimes it takes a while to discover these things. And sometimes, like in my case, it takes a long LONG while.

What I'm getting at is I haven't realized how much I love being around other people. And how much I crave it when I don't have it. It dawned on me when I was locked away for hours on end studying ALL BY MY LONESOME this last crazy (18+ credit hours).

I like being around people. I like effecting people and being affected. And usually the only time I don't want to be around anyone is when I'm in pain. And believe me... you don't want to be around me when I'm in pain ;) I'm not very nice.

I just spent the last week with, can you guess? .... ding ding ding... yep my familia! And I think I figured out (something super obvious now that I think about it) why I crave people around me so much.

Let me just tell you... it's going to be pretty awesome so just get ready...................................

I am the middle child of SEVEN children.

DUH!!!!!!!

Of course I crave people, and sometimes I really super crave attention. I honestly think all middle children crave attention. But I guess that's up for debate according to my old Human Development teacher.

Any who, I LOVE people.

AND I especially love my family. You really don't realize how good you have it till it's gone :(

What I'd give to be a kid again and have all my siblings at home running around like crazies :)
Those were the days!

I guess I just have my future family to look forward to. Except I don't think I can have 7 kids... that might be a little much for me :I

The new job

So I've worked at Bluehost now for a little over three months................ wow that happened fast. I must say I absolutely love it! It's the perfect job for me. I need to take pictures stat! Maybe I will once I get the Bluehost camera :)

I seriously feel so blessed to of gotten this job with how many people I was up against while interviewing... needless to say I'm so much better than all those other peeps ;) AND I don't think I'll blink a tear if Mr. Matt ever yells at me. So Hurrah for me!

So lets get down to the dirty details shall we?

Why I <3 my job:

*I love that I'm the purchaser & that I have my very own American Express card. I just feel so official with it :)

*I love that I get to buy all the food for the employees and switch it up every once in a while. The thank you's are non stop when I do. Especially if somethings a hit!

*I love LOVE <3 our massage therapist HEATHER {Insert heavenly angels singing here} she has done wonders for my neck!!!!!!! Thank you, Thanka you, THANK YOU whom ever made her a consistent visitor here :) :) :) >

*I love sneaking a peak at people playing CrAzY ping pong games. I never knew human beings could play so well.

*I love when my manager brings in her new little baby. Sophia is the cutest baby in the world. Seriously!

*I love the new friendships I've made with Laura, TR, David and the billing & renewal peeps.

*I love that I go to HR conferences and trainings with my boss.

*I love all the experience I'm getting in tons of different areas.

*I love that I get to move around the office a lot & get out of the office on a regular basis.

*I love getting to know the employees (YES even if 80% of them are uber dorky).

*I love that I've already gotten a raise! Wahoooooo!

*I love that everyone around me is pretty much my personal IT team (aka geek squad). I'm learning so much about computers.

*I LOVE that I can look forward to an AMAZING bonus this Christmas. No more hand towels thank you!

*I love that I have a Mac & a PC :)

*I love my amazing new desk (that's probably more expensive than my car).

*I love that my job is only 2 miles away (biking or running it takes me less than 30 minutes) and the AMAZING in house shower.

*I love our executives, they're so down to earth & funny. Makes my job so much less intimidating!

*I love that I practice my "ping pong" form when I'm walking around the office.

*I love my new "EASY" button that the staples guy brought in for me :) :) :)

*I love my new painting that Miglena donated! Such a gorgeous oil piece :)

*I love seeing Miglena walk by in her Oh so AdOrAbLe tennis outfits. I seriously am considering taking up tennis just to dress like her.

*I love lunches with the accounting team and riding with Miglena in her posh Mercedes.

*I love love LOVED driving Matt's BMW 8 series and can't wait to drive his Range Rover or Dodge Viper!

*I love that I'm getting a printer. I'm a HUGE fan of the scan to email feature. It's so high tech and green.

*I love getting to know the quirky people that work here...

*I love giving the PI tests (personality tests) and want to learn a lot more about it if I can :)

*I love how casual the dress is. Why? Because when I dress up I stand out and get a bazillion complements. And when I dress down it's just... nice :)

*I love that my desk overlooks the golf course and river... such a peaceful setting (side note: I have noticed A LOT of golfers are very well dressed and VERY attractive... from far away that is.) Plan on me picking up golf soon ;)

*I love my own personal strobe light. I get a kick when I turn it on, just for a minute though because who wants to go into seizure mode???

*I love running background checks... I feel like a total detective! Carmen SandiegOooo?

*I loved doing new hire orientation... yes I did it all by myself a couple times!

*I love that a tech left a book of computer jokes on my desk for me to read in my "spare time"... sadly I didn't really get most of them. Sorry I'm not a super geek yet!

*I love the ICE machine in the break room. Mmmmmmm Ice :)

*And finally I LOVE that I'm so busy. I'd so much rather have a busy productive day at work than tons of down time. Feeling needed & useful is the best thing ever :)

Things that I'm not fond of:

*I don't love that I've gained some weight here... yes... Free food in the break room will do that to you! That and Sams club pretzels being so close.

*I don't love that I no longer work close to other people, as in sitting in close proximity to other people. I never realized how much I would miss having someone over my shoulder.

* And finally (then I'll stop whining) I wish there were more single girls around my age working here. It's cool being friends with married peeps, but It'd be nice to have a close gal pal at work. Maybe eventually... we are always hiring :)

Over all this was the perfect move for me. I'm so much happier here. It's heaven sent really. I feel so lucky. I've decided I want to start playing foosball on my lunch... or have a friendly game of ping de pong :) I'll have to update on that!

Life is beautiful!

Lately I've been reminded how precious our time on this earth truly is & of how truly blessed I am. Life IS beautiful! The pains & the sorrows, the joys & the progress made all together are truly what makes this life a beautiful one!
I've been learning more about the law of attraction lately & have truly converted over. With conference this last weekend & everything that has happened these past couple weeks in my life I know without a doubt the Lords hand is truly in our lives.

So I choose to pay it forward & hope you do as well. Let's help each other live this life beautifully!

Amber + Summer time hobby = Amazing dresses!

Do it MYSELF!
Last Saturday I went to a Shabby Apple Trunk Show & just about died with all the amazingness within. If you don't know what Shabby Apple is, it's a company that makes a lot of really cute modest dresses. And if you don't know what a Trunk show is, it's a fancy way of saying an internet based company brings products to your area to check out/try on. :) So anyways, I was at the trunk show trying on all these dresses, a lot of which I FELL IN LOVE with instantly, but they were all quite expensive, as in 70+ for your average item. I bought one, it was on sale so it was justifiable & was most definitely NOT $70.00. So I'm leaving the show with my new purchase in tow (which looks quite ravishing on I might add) thinking, "Hey, didn't I sew all through high school, and don't I know how to make pretty much any of those dresses in there. And didn't I keep on thinking about little things that would make each dress better while trying them on."Yep, Yes & Quite so. So here's the deal, I'm going to be making my own dresses from here on out. Unless something is super cheap and AMAZING on at Ross or something, then I'll fork out the deniros. But from now on I'm going to be creating dresses just for me. Maybe it will turn into more later on, due to my impeccable taste and skill ;) Who knows :)

I'll probably just add sleeves to this one & raise the neckline a bit! I want to get this EXACT color if at all possible!

I've always wanted to make a black lace dress.

I think what I'll make is a combination of these two dresses, The sleeves etc. of the dress above and then the length and pattern in lace of the one below.

This dress would be so cute shortened with sleeves would it not?
Ohhh I love the scalloped lace neckline on this dress!!!

This one is just for fun :)

This color is AMAZING!!! I'm not necessarily going to make it a long dress, or use the pattern for the top half of the dress AT ALL, but I love the ruching (however you spell that!) and the draping in the back of the dress! So elegant!

So I've been meaning to have a blood red swanky dress for a while, I'm not sure I'm going to go quite as formal as the first picture, but I may. As for the other pictures, I really only like the striped/stacked look on the right. I think it would be fun, and I could use a fun stretchy fabric.

I love the oversized lace used in the bodice and the hem. It's So fun and springy.

Oh Penelope, you make us all want to be Latin! I like the dress she's wearing, none of the silly ones off to the side. I'd probably just add sleeves. I love the color!

I like the way the skirt falls with this one. I'm not a huge fan of the sheerness or long sleeves, but the color & Ruching in the front is fun!

This dress is just for fun! There is no way in hades I would be able to make this look amazing and modest at the same time. I am however; quite literally in love with this dress. If I wasn't LDS & if I looked as amazing as Giselle I would wear this dress every day! Haha not really. But I think it's a gorgeous design..

So lately I've had one thing on my mind. And it involves strapping a board to my feet and pushing myself down a mountain on some amazing Utah snow!

I have YET to get myself on the mountain this season and it's been killing me!

Helmet --- check
Sweet A board --- check
Amazing snow gear --- check
Boots ---
Time ---

So I guess until spring break or until I can get a day off work I will be board free :(

I need to get on this issue and find a solution. The first step is admitting the problem, so haha check!

Until I get out on those lovely slopes though I can look at some awesome photos.

Even though summer is quite a few months from now I have already started a plan for the warm season! A change in hair color!

This last summer I converted to a fiery red head for the season, but this summer I'm going all the way. I am going Blonde!!!

I know what image came to your mind. Some platinum blonde with fake n' bake skin and black eye brows. Don't worry!!! I will do this very classily (is that even a word?).

I know this is so cliche and lame of me, but here is a picture of Kim Kardashian from summer 09' when she went blonde. This is the look I'm going to go for :)

Kim's natural color is very dark just like mine, so I think I'll be able to swing this look off. I'll do my research and get lots of opinions first too... of course.

So any who... just have to suffer through these last few months of winter. But now I can look forward to my blondie locks of summer 2010 :)

Haha I'm back already! I've figured something out to blog about!

I was chatting with a co-worker the other day about a few different things and we started talking about goals, dreams, and discovering who we as people really are. He did something really cool that a BYU professor recommended at a conference. You ready???

Write a 10 page paper all about YOU! Yes, you! He said it was the weirdest thing ever, but good. Oh so good!

So, I'm going to do it! Yep, I'm writing a paper all about ME! Hopefully it won't be categorized under the Horror Genre when I'm done.

I'll have to update! :)

Oh and since we're chatting about things I'm doing... haha me me me.... I started P90x this week! I want to lose another 10-15 pounds. Sounds like a lot, but I think It'll be good! And the program was killer! Can't wait to update that as well!

I'm not a huge Tim Burton fan, but I will have to admit that his next film looks pretty darn good. Anne Hathaway (White Queen), Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), the up & coming Australian actress Mia Wasikowska (Alice Kingsley) & of course Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen).
The plot for the film seems a little more intense than your average Alice in Wonderland has been. It's a combination of both books by Lewis Carroll 'Alice In Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There'. Alice who is 17 at the time attempts to avoid a proposal at a high profile party located on a Victorian estate. It's then that she follows a rabbit down a hole to a land she once was before, ten years prior, but does not remember. There is also a feud between sisters within the film. "Hathaway is playing the White Queen, a benevolent monarch who is deposed and banished by her sister, the Red Queen (Carter), who has an affinity for crying out, “Off with their heads!” The White Queen needs Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch. " Sound pretty good so far!

The effects used to capture the whimsical & strange land that alice finds herself in will be done with a combination of live action and performance capture technology. Burton says, "It's kind of a mixture of some distorted live action & animation. I can't relate it to anything because I'm not sure what to relate it to. It's kind of a new territory for me..."

I'm excited to take the trip down the rabbit hole myself on March 5th of 2010.

I totally scored a FREE 10 gallon fish tank with a pump, heater, two fishies & a frog from craigslist last week! I should take a picture of it all! The MAIN numero uno reason I got it was so I could get these wicked awesome mini turtles that swim around in fishie tanks!

Aren't they so cute? Like a puppy dog or something ;)

I had a few turtles as a kid & most people that know me fairly well know I really like the boxy little guys :) I mean honestly Crush & Squirt were the best characters EVER in Finding Nemo!!!

BUT please everyone, I am a little grown up now so I don't want any more:

Almost TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL!!!

So I almost bailed on my class. Yeah I know, I'm ashamed of myself.

Seriously, giving up my cadavers and week nights. AUGH what was I thinking!!! Not to mention peace of mind on Wednesday nights and the loss of all my anxiousness! Maybe I'll stop pulling out my eyebrows!!! ;)

I weighed out the PRO'S & CON'S and on the level of personal sanity the Pro's were in favor of bailing, but when it came to applying for RAD school, time and money spent on the class as well as my pride it weighed in heavily for a stick to it kinda deal. So I've opted to stick it out. Painful as it may be!

HONESTLY, it was probably my phone conversation with my mother that made me decide. Dang Mom's! Hehe, always getting you to CTR. Good ole' MOM's :)

I was goin' for the F, sad but true. But seriously, sometimes life is so DrAiNiNg!
Especially with this CRAZY class. People told me this class was hard... and I was like yeah yeah yeah. But YEAH people, it IS!!! The AVERAGE on just our lecture midterm (this isn't even lab people!!!!) was 37%!!! That was the AVG!!! A.V.E.R.A.G.E!

BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be praying for a car accident the day of my final. Hopefully God will make it happen this time, because he totally ignored me the day of my midterm.

I ran a 5K the morning of my midterm and was hoping a car would run me over or something... hehe! Just Kidding... Kinda!

Well pray for me to:
A. Get hit by a car
or
B. Have ultra human super powers so I'll never have to sleep!

So then I can bust a move on my books all night and show up Mr. 89% on all the Lecture quizzes and be the new person everyone wants to beat up for messing up the curve!!! Cept they wont' know it's me because I'm not asian ;)

I'm going to learn Latin this summer. Yeah that's right. Instead of listening to my summer bumpin' music in my vehicle with my windows rolled down I'm going to be repeating words aloud when the lady on the CD tells me to! Lame sauce I know, but Chemistry in the summer was never that cool either and I'm doing that too.

Don't you worry though, I'll get my summer partying in somehow, I always find a way ;)

BUT my amazazing roomie was such a sweetie and got me some flowers, candy and OJ when I was almost suicidal!

I decided to spice up work a bit and bring in the flowers to see how many HR worthy comments I'd get! Hahaha it was a good day :)

Man, lifes random joys! Seriously the best thing ever!

My BIG FAT boyfriend diet book!

One of my favorite stress relievers is to go to a Barnes & Noble or Borders and stay there... forevvver.
I love reading and usually tend to forget I do unless I go there or the library. But since the library doesn't necessarily have a relaxing connotation for me any more I opt for a book store.

Barnes & Noble is my FAVE because of all the big cushie chairs that your butt sinks into faster than a speeding bullet!!! BUT you totally have to race every one and their dog to an open chair, especially during the prime time hours. It's kinda like happy hour at the bar, cept it's kid friendly, alcohol free, and a hippie happy hot spot.

Well on my last trip I was looking for a Diet/Nutrition book that my mom had been talking to me about and I ran across these beauties. I almost died of laughter when I saw the first one, but the second find had me zig zagging through the aisles gasping for breathe. Maybe I was in a particularly good mood, I usually think anythings funny then, but I still find these books rather silly!

I did find a couple books that I troughly enjoyed, so it wasn't a complete flop of a visit ;)

I actually got this way cool book that was ON SALE called "Yoga on The Go"
It shows you how to do Yoga while your at the office, brushing your teeth, blow drying your hair, in the kitchen, at the grocery store. It's way cool, at least I think, since I've been trying to work on my yogi-ness. ONE day people I will be able to fold myself inside out and upside down like all my yoga instructors and all ya'll will be jealous of my crazy old lady yoga skillz ;) Hehe

So one of my co-workers just had her engagments taken & of course us girls were talking about all the different shots etc. from the take. This all lead me to try and find these engagement pictures (that I am absolutely in LOVE with, weird I know) of a couple in the bay taken a couple years ago by a super good photographer in the Sacramento area.

Sooooo I went to her blog which is now her website and COULDN'T FIND THEM since she had changed things up a bit.

BUT, praise alah, I located them and figured I'd post them to my blog since I am planning on taking engagements super soon (riiiiiight). Haha, but seriously, don't be suprised if my engagments end up looking like these... I mean if that ever happens. :0

Lately:

I’ve been in this bipolar energy mood. One minute I want to run 5 miles and do all my H.W. (blasted HW!!!) in one night & the next I’m day dreaming of my oh so amazing comforter and user friendly mattress at home.

Can I just get a happy medium going here people? Like seriously, this is driving me crazy!!!

So I decided that whenever school gets me STRESSED I should just think of three things:

If you’ve never tried on a pair of these babies get on it! The day I pass my AART Exam I am going to go and buy a pair of these electric blue rockin’ shoes!!!

If you could go to work in your pajamas every day would you? This doesn’t apply to those who sleep nakie hehehe! Scrubs are pretty much amazing because they’re basically PJ’s that are available in many different colors and styles. Personally I’m going to be all about the Dickies brand or Vera Wangs exclusive line for the hottest in the field ;). Plan on seeing me in coordinating scrubs and Nike frees baby!!!

Ok we all know Mr. Jack Shepherd has always wanted to be a Radiologist & has always wanted to work in UT right? So pretty much I (cute little me) am going to work for him one day & then I’ll convert him and we’ll get married in the San Diego temple. My life in a nut shell ;)

P.S. That is NOT me in the Hair net and scrubs, I'd look so much hotter in scrubs. I mean she looks like my mom... wait ;) (That one's for you Kim & Lindz)

The future Mrs. Tom Brady!

So if you know me in the slightest you know that I’ve had this weird obsession with wanting to look like Gisele Bundchen.
OH, you don’t know who that is???
Well she’s engaged to Tom Brady (Quarter back for the New England Patriots, he's also 6' freakin' 4"!!!), she is the highest paid super model EVER (33 Mill to be exact), was also VS’s head angel for a couple years, is 5’ 11”, weighs 130 pounds and is a size 6.
I’m not quite her height, nor would I think it’d be healthy for me to be her exact weight… but you gotta shoot for something right?

One day when I’m feeling particularly daring I’m going to try and recreate her hair color on my head, since she was at one point a brunette just like me!

Healthy or not I will always want to look like this woman. Tall, beautiful, happy, funny & hot. What more could someone ask for in a girl?

And as my boss Lindsey would say “I can tell you how to catch a guy! Be hot, don’t talk & don’t expect anything.” Well Lindz, Giselle just proved the latter two wrong so maybe there is hope!

So I decided something mid-yoga class yesterday.

I am going to be a Yoga & Pilates instructor one day. Why?

Well here are the PERKS:

I pick the music for class

I pick the times

I’ll make active girlie friends

I don’t have to pay the gym/instructor to go to class… I get PAID to go!

And I’ll be able to fold myself in half like all those crazy instructors do.

I’ll HAVE to have a SWEET BODY all the freakin time (Peer/class pressure at it's best)!!!!!!

Oh also, all the yoga and Pilates peoples have sweet abs, waaaay cute mats and amazing work out get ups!!! TOTAL PERK!

All in all I think it’s a great thing to look into… now I just have to figure out how to doooo it!

If you know me you would know that I am always in this "be healthy", "learn about my body" or "lose weight" kind of mode. I am constantly in and out of the health boat trying to lose weight. But aren't we all? Aren't most women stressin' about those extra pounds. The extra pinch of lovely on their abdomen, the unsightly layers of fluff on our inner thighs. It's not just me people! It's every woman on the planet! So why am I ranting and raving about this? I'll tell you why. I want to raise my metabolism & think you should too.

Here are 12 ways to do it!

Don't cut too many calories too fast!
Altering your diet from a normal to high amount of calories to a very-low-calorie diet is a great way to ensure your metabolism will not go anywhere. "Your body is programmed to defend your usual weight," says Liz Applegate, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at the University of California at Davis and author of Bounce Your Body Beautiful. "So if you suddenly drop 1,000 calories from your diet, your resting metabolic rate [the number of calories your body burns to maintain basic bodily functions, such as breathing and heartbeat] will automatically slow down, because your body now assumes that you're starving."

So how many calories should you consume? Depending on your level of activity, you can safely lose anywhere from half a pound to two pounds a week if you multiply your current weight by 11, says Applegate. (For example, if you're 120 pounds, aim for around 1,320 calories a day.) "Research shows that women who consume less than this amount see their resting metabolic rate plummet by as much as 45 percent," notes Dale Huff, R.D., a St. Louis nutritionist.

Eat breakfast.
Believe it or not, it may be the most important meal of the day as far as metabolism (and weight loss) is concerned. Breakfast eaters lose more weight than breakfast skippers do, according to studies. "Your metabolism slows while you sleep, and it doesn't rev back up until you eat again," explains Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., professor of nutrition at Penn State University and an author of The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan. So if you bypass breakfast, your body won't burn as many calories until lunchtime as it could. That's why it's smart to start the day with a solid 300- to 400-calorie meal; it jump-starts your metabolism.

Aim for a breakfast that has plenty of high-fiber carbs: When researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia compared the effects of high-fat and high-fiber-carbohydrate breakfasts, they discovered that people who ate the fatty meal got hungry sooner afterward. "High-fiber carbohydrates take longer for your body to digest and absorb than fats; thus they don't cause rapid changes in your blood sugar, so your hunger is kept at bay longer," says study coauthor Susanna Holt, Ph.D. Some good choices: a bran-rich breakfast cereal with low-fat milk; whole-grain toast topped with low-fat ricotta and sliced banana or berries; an egg-white veggie omelette with whole-grain toast.

Pile on the protein.
Research shows that getting plenty of protein can boost your metabolism, causing you to burn an extra 150 to 200 calories a day, says Jeff Hampl, Ph.D., R.D., a spokesman for the American Dietetic Association. "Protein is made up mainly of amino acids, which are harder for your body to break down [than fat and carbs], so you burn more calories getting rid of them," he explains.

That doesn't mean you have to live on the high-protein Atkins diet. But you should make sure that 10 to 35 percent of your total daily calories comes from protein. So if you're on an 1,800-calorie diet, 360 to 630 of those calories should come from lean sources of protein, such as fish, chicken, low-fat cheese, yogurt and legumes. "Aim to have a serving of protein, such as nuts, a small can of tuna, or a piece of low-fat string cheese, at every meal and snack," says Hampl.

Nibble all day.
It sounds counterintuitive; why would you eat continually if you wanted to lose weight? But eating five to six mini meals rather than three larger meals every day keeps your metabolism humming 24/7. "It will also prevent you from going without food so long that you become so hungry you overeat," says Peeke. Try not to let more than four hours elapse between meals and make sure each meal includes protein, for an extra metabolic boost. If you eat a high-fiber breakfast of cereal and fruit first thing, for example, have a midmorning snack, such as yogurt and fruit; lunch (try four ounces of chicken or fish on top of a leafy green salad); another snack, like a banana and a piece of low-fat cheese, in the late afternoon; and a light dinner (think four to six ounces of turkey, salmon, or another lean source of protein with steamed veggies).

Go for "good" carbs.
Refined carbs, such as bagels, white bread, and potatoes, create a surge in insulin that in turn promotes storage of fat and may drive down your metabolic rate, says Louis Aronne, M.D., an obesity specialist at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, who recommends high-fiber carbs instead. "It's important to keep carbohydrates in your overall diet, but focus on vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, which have less of an impact on insulin levels," he explains.

Skip alcohol.
Thinking about having a cocktail -- or two -- before dinner? Think again. Having a drink before a meal causes people to eat around 200 calories more, several studies show. Drinking with dinner isn't such a good idea either: Other research has found that the body burns off alcohol first, meaning that the calories in the rest of the meal are more likely to be stored as fat. If you do have a cocktail craving, stick to wine, which packs only 80 calories a glass -- or minimize the calories by drinking a white-wine spritzer (two ounces of wine mixed with two ounces of seltzer).

Drink milk.
Load up on low-fat dairy: Women who consumed milk, yogurt, and cheese three to four times a day lost 70 percent more body fat than women who didn't eat dairy in a study published in the January 2003 American Society for Nutritional Sciences Journal of Nutrition. The reason: Calcium, along with other substances in dairy, actually revs up your metabolism, telling your body to burn excess fat faster, according to study author Michael Zemel, Ph.D., director of the Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. And no, fortified o.j. won't do the trick. The best results come from dairy products instead of from other calcium-rich foods (like broccoli), calcium-fortified products (such as orange juice) or supplements. Women reap the largest fat-burning benefit when they consume three servings of dairy and 1,200 milligrams of calcium a day, Zemel's research shows.

Spice up your soup.
Sprinkle a few hot peppers into your lunchtime soup or evening stir-fry. They temporarily boost your resting metabolic rate, according to research done at Laval University in Canada. Here's why: Capsaicin, a compound found in jalapeño and cayenne peppers, temporarily stimulates your body to release more stress hormones, such as adrenaline, speeding up your metabolism and thus increasing your ability to burn calories, says study coauthor Angelo Tremblay, director of the Institute of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods at Laval. Bonus: The pepper-eaters had less of an appetite, Tremblay found, probably because the spiciness of the food made them feel full.

Pump iron.
Experts say weight training is the best way to crank up your resting metabolic rate. "As you get older, your resting metabolic rate drops, but weight training can rev it right back up again: A pound of muscle burns up to nine times the calories a pound of fat does," explains fitness expert Westcott. In fact, a woman who weighs 130 pounds and is muscular burns more calories than a sedentary 120-pound woman of the same height. Regular strength training can increase your resting metabolic rate anywhere from 6.8 to 7.8 percent. (That means that if you weigh 120 pounds, you could burn around 100 more calories a day, even when you're just watching TV.)

Don't think you have time to hit the gym circuit? You can get great results with only two 15-minute lifting sessions a week. Westcott's research, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise in January 1999, found that doing just one set of 10 reps reaps about the same muscle-building benefits as three sets, as long as they're performed to muscle fatigue. Bonus: Weight training also gives your metabolism a short-term boost. When women lift weights, their metabolisms remain in overdrive for up to two hours after the last bench press, allowing them to burn as many as 100 extra calories, according to a study published in June 2001 in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.

Rev up your workouts.
Adding interval training -- bursts of high-intensity moves -- to your workout is a great metabolism booster. "Studies have shown that people who do interval training twice a week [in addition to cardio] lose twice as much weight as those who do just a regular cardio workout," says obesity specialist Aronne. You can easily incorporate interval training into your workout by inserting a 30-second sprint into your jog every five minutes or by adding a one-minute incline walk to your treadmill workout. "Since your body is working harder, it's a more intense workout -- and you therefore burn more calories," says Westcott. On other days, shake up your routine with 40 minutes of cross-training. Ideally, aim for two 20-to-40-minute interval-training sessions and two 20-to-40-minute cross-training sessions a week.

Break up your exercise routine.
Whenever possible, slice each of your workouts into two smaller sessions. For example, do a 15-minute weight-lifting session in the morning, then do your 30-minute walk on your lunch hour or at night. You'll burn an extra 100 to 200 calories that day, explains Kelly Tracy, M.A., fitness coordinator at Duke University Diet and Fitness Center. Don't have time? Just add in some stair climbing or short walks throughout the day. Even small bursts of activity are enough to get your metabolism revved, according to a study in the scientific journal Nature. "I call it the mini stoke: For five minutes out of every hour, get up and do something, even if it's just walking around your office," says professor of medicine Peeke. "You can end up burning a couple of hundred extra calories."

Sweat out your PMS.
It's tempting to curl up on the couch the minute PMS mood swings and bloat strike, but you'll lose more weight if you exercise during those two weeks before your period, according to a recent study at the University of Adelaide in Australia. "Women burned about 30 percent more fat for the two weeks following ovulation to about two days before menstruating," says study coauthor Leanne Redman. Here's why: The reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone are at their peak then -- and because they promote the body's use of fat as energy, more fat is burned off when you exercise during this time.

Get some shut-eye.
Skimping on sleep can derail your metabolism. In a study at the University of Chicago, people who got four hours of sleep or less a night had more difficulty processing carbohydrates. "When you're exhausted, your body lacks the energy to do its normal day-to-day functions, which include burning calories, so your metabolism is automatically lowered," explains Peeke.

There are easy ways to get a good night's sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Schedule your workouts earlier in the day; exercising within two to three hours of bedtime can keep sleep at bay. And try soaking in a hot bath, since studies show that warm water makes it easier to fall asleep.

Chill out.
Long-term stress can make you fat, studies have found. "When you're chronically stressed, your body is flooded with stress hormones, which stimulate fat cells deep in the abdomen to increase in size and encourage fat storage," says Peeke. "I call this toxic weight, because fat deep within your belly is more likely to increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer." And stress hormones spark your appetite, making you likely to overeat.

So what's a frazzled woman to do? Make a list of all the things that relax you: playing with the dog, writing in your journal, even listening to classical music. Then allow yourself 10 to 15 minutes every day to kick back and enjoy one of these activities.

So today I was sending an email to the coaching office at Prosper informing every one that the HR rep had arrived for her weekly visit. Instead of making a whole new email I decided to just forward to the one I had sent a few weeks back and edit it for the day. So I flipped a few things around and sent it without looking at the title of the email. It was labeled “RE: Happy Three Day Weekend!” which was meant for the Fourth of July weekend.

This is what I got in response in EMAILS alone.
